Hey all. So, what are your strategies for surviving the winter? The boredom, the cold, or whatever you would like to chat about? I find it a rotten season but hope to make the most of it this year!

Hot coffee and a sun lamp to fend off the tiredness and depression, at least a little.

To get out of the house as much as possible. That should be fairly possible since we don't really have much of a winter here. On those days when it's too chilly for me to get out, I will just read more. Like to drink hot chocolate and hot tea to warm my blood. Also just love the smell of popcorn in winter.

Eeewww no popcorn.

I try not to travel in snow if I can help it.

Sheveling snow. Lifting weights. Cuddling if you've got a cuddle buddy.
Getting out even when it is ass freezing, and playing some.
Good bourbon in your flask.
Winters just a state of mind if you allow it to make a difference.
I love the season.
Smile.

I feel the same as poster #6 in a way. I can't really say I love the season, but I don't dislike it either. I don't see any reason to complain or give up my regular routine. Since I can't control the weather I don't see much point in worrying or complaining about it.

Correct. Just enjoy, but then, I'm a Colorado native.
We's gots 4 wheels drives, snow go's, snow shoes, ski's, good beer and whiskey.
Now, were's my cowboy hat.

I love winter. it is one of the best season, along side with Fall and spring. can't care more for summer though.

I love winter. As I walk a lot, the cold really keeps me from sweating on my way into work. hot coco, the smell of wood stoves and fire places on the wind, and the lack of college students outside being loud as hell because its too cold.

Yes, Winter is the best.

Post 12 by Imprecator (The Zone's Spelling Nazi) on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2017 13:14:09

Whilst I'm not a fan of winter weather, I do enjoy certain aspects of the season, such as the smell of wood smoke from fireplaces, and that cozy feeling of loading up on food and other supplies and shutting oneself in with plenty of entertainment (books, movies, music, etc.) as a snowstorm rages outside.

Post 13 by lalady (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 29-Nov-2017 14:18:37

I agree with you, Imp. Winter is definitely not my favorite season. But the smells of fireplaces are nice. Autumn is my most favorite time of the year followed by spring.

I think I have to think twice sometimes about what I wear. It can get somewhat
warm but then also at night pretty cold for us. A heater is also pretty useful. I
try to stay away from sick people, I get ill very easily.

Bah, winter is the worst though it's not bad in my state this year. Ah but I ride it out somehow. Just turn on the heat.

Am an older person and wear cleats on my boots works well. But I have seen an ad for cleats on canes? Anybody use them?

Post 17 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 13-Dec-2017 13:20:35

If you mean a guiding cane, I can't imagine why a person would want a cleats on that?
Now a stability cane, maybe, but if I had stability issues, I'd avoid going out on icy days, or get help.

Here in south central texas, we don't really have much winter. But last week, we had about 2 inches for the first time in about 3 decades. If it had snowed another couple of inches, the whole city would have shut down. Lol

Post 19 by bea (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 14-Dec-2017 8:13:32

That's what I said. A guide cane with cleats? Just wondered if anybody used this. You're right. A support cane with a cleat would make more sense. I need to do homework on this before I purchase anything.

Save your money. Best solution to me.
Laughing.

My thought exactly. That's why I come out here to get info.

Post 22 by Siriusly Severus (The ESTJ 1w9 3w4 6w7 The Taskmaste) on Saturday, 16-Dec-2017 13:11:35

yeah, we don't really have winter or what most call winters anyway. If it gets
past freezing it's amazing. It's never snowed here and if it does it melts at
contact with the ground. Usually low forties and upper thirties is what is normal.

I think even if we get a few inches maybe half a foot the entire city would shut
down and freak out. Probably many would take photos and wondered what
happened. I don't think that's likely though, what it being 80 degrees
consistently for the last week is pretty telling. It dropped 20 degrees in to the
sixties which is normal for winter here, so no fear of snow.
